It can never be replicated whether it is the feeling you get when seeing it or the actual thing itself. When I think about a spectacle I think about European soccer. There is so much that goes on in a game and it is different every time. The fans always have different reactions to the games and the action on the field is unique to the game. Every single game is different and I love that about this sport. Anything can happen. This is spectacle in a more active sense.

Spectacle can also be stationary, such as sculptures or elaborate setups...

Artist statement

Artist Statement

A digiscape consists of unreal things that become real based on a viewer’s perception. Light can be manifested as landscape or light can be the landscape itself. This is the internal struggle that I have embedded in the digiscape I created. In addition to this, the idea that digital elements are not physical works simultaneously with the metaphysical nature of light. The digital landscape is not meant to be a display of lights, which are physical. The function light plays in a landscape is the aim of this piece. Light being a microcosm for perception is communicated in this digiscape through the abstract interpretation of the viewer.

The digiscape moves from dark values to light values to show the importance of light in creating visibility. In addition to moving through the space from left to right, the digiscape can be seen in an isometric perspective. Only light allows things to appear 3-D dimensional, let alone appear at all. The pyramid-like structures represent the diffraction of light, which leads to the birth of color. The shadows represent the landscape without light, void of all detail. Reflection is also addressed in the way light is hitting off the triangular structures and emanating. Being in a landscape allows you to look back on things and ponder on trivial things. Though this digital landscape may seem unimportant at first glance, spending some time with the piece allows for a new understanding.

The artist James Turrell, whose work this digiscape is inspired from, made a good point when about the appreciation of art by viewers, “I saw the Mona Lisa when it was in L.A., saw it for 13 seconds and had to move on. We were set out to find a solution to this question. I am fascinated by light and the effects it makes on the world. How do you show light as a digital landscape I chose to work with the thought that digital is not tangible and neither is light. I have this internal struggle of whether light is landscape, or is it light as landscape. Light is not physical, but it makes the physical visible. Lights are the physical manifestation of light. Light can be seen as a microcosm for perception. Simply put, because of light we are allowed to see. What we see is based on our interpretation of what is in front of us. In the digiscape I am creating, I made use of the different properties light allows, such as reflections, shadows, colors. The viewer is encouraged to move throughout the piece, both on a 2-D persective as well as an isometric perspective.

<img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HnPIVMkzims/Sf_C0SRxWoI/AAAAAAAAAFg/FNnWvTizdgY/s400/previes.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332194687345318530" style="cursor: pointer; The printer is a tool that outputs what is directed to be output from the screen. The challenge is to come up with something that could be sent to multiple people and have it be so compelling that they would not hesitate to print it. From this reaction appreciation for the image can be achieved. I believe in order to reach the level where the image can be appreciate it has to be general enough to be understood, by almost anyone, because in the end this image could reach millions of people with different levels of awareness about the world around them.

With this being said, I wanted to create a document for printing that had to do with Youtube. My initial idea was to print out a set of frames that the person would then assemble to create a moving picture. What video that is I don't know. Thinking about this process brought me to the reason why someone would print out a video rather than watch it on the computer. One reason is because some people don't have the software available or the internet connection to watch youtube videos. Another is some people are banned from it. In China there is a constant battle of whether access to the video sharing website should be allowed. Currently it is not allowed. Doing an infinite print based on this subject would be tough because everyone doesn't know the background knowledge behind this story.

A flipbook would be ideal for this project because it creates an infinite moving image from still images.

After thinking about the "Infinite Print" I'm still not sure exactly what I want to create.
Questions I would ask myself is are...

What video would I want to see print out and animated with the flipping of pages?
Answer: What about a video showing a flipbook? So it would be a flipbook showing a flip book being flipped.

How can I make a statement with the video I choose to be translated into a moving image and proliferated to many people?

What meaning will come from seeing the moving image by hand rather than on the screen?

..more questions to come.

Change of thought

I've had a few problems with making an interesting image for screen printing with the Circuit City theme. Brings in pop culture to a work of art from an earlier time.

Poster Boy from the The Observer
This artist uses a single tool for his manipulations: a razor blade. He creates images that have deep meanings to them. They criticize the problems in society. This manipulation in particular comments on the 9-11 tragedy and criticizes the government's efforts to cover up the whole story behind it.

from The Observer
Photo manipulation by addition. Adding something so simple can change an image drastically. This photo interested me because it shows the problems manipulations can cause in editorial media.

Due to the economy, Circuit City has gone out of business. What does the closing of all Circuit City stores mean? Best Buy is better. Sure other companies can still sell these things, but since technology is always advancing, it would make more sense for a company like this to stick around if their product is becoming a staple in our lives. It makes one wonder if technology really is as important as it seems to be. During these hard times it seems as though, other companies like clothing stores are more important than technology.

This is my attempt at a manipulation.

OJ Simpson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_manipulation
Abraham Obama http://www.popaganda.com/
